YOGA HOSERS [2016]

After the disastrous box office results from Tusk, I don't know how Honorary Canadian director Kevin Smith miraculously made the second part of his True North horror trilogy.
Yoga Hosers follows teenage Canadian clerk BFFs, the Colleens, as they fend to save their convenience store from a horde of tiny Nazi Mounties made out of scrumptious sausage and sauerkraut.
While Tusk was disturbingly funny and disgusting, Yoga Hosers might be just as demented but it's really really dumb.  There might be some great chuckle-worthy Canadian in-jokes but everything is predictable, inane and quite frankly embarrassing.  Johnny Depp's Christophe Waltz-esque French-Canadian P.I.  and his ever-moving moles are the highlight of the film and that's not saying a whole lot anymore.  It's pretty awful but somehow I can't but help admiring Smith and his endless ambition to do whatever the hell he wants.

It's hard to defend, but I enjoyed this for what it was; a midnight movie aimed at teenagers. It felt like a great little tribute to the Full Moon Pictures era of cheesy low-budget horror flicks. I do hope Smith gets to make the last of his True North trilogy, Moose Jaws.

XD Very hard to defend.
I wanted to like it. I really did. I felt like the only one who really enjoyed Red State and Tusk.
I've liked everything he's done up till now (Cop-Out doesn't exist) but this was just awful.
Little Smith can't act but has some screen presence. Little Depp can act but has no screen presence.
I get to see Smith in person again in November.
Hopefully by then there'll be more news about Moose Jaws.

Yeah, I can defend everything he's done except Cop Out. At the "premiere party" screening I went to, there was a 45-minute taped introduction by Kevin Smith where he explained his reasoning for this movie, and by the time it started, I was already on-board. It's safe to say that this one is only for the fans.

Speaking of weird, fucked up movies, I don't know if this one is on your radar or not yet... The Greasy Strangler. Holy shit. I just saw it today and I don't know what to do with myself since.

XD Oddly enough The Greasy Strangler is coming up on The Nutshell sometime this weekend.
