Grave Encounters (2011)

The thing that keeps bringing me back to these "found footage" films again and again is the unpredictability of it all. That's what keeps the successful ones interesting and scary. This one is slightly reminiscent of Session 9, and all the footage takes place in an abandoned psychiatric hospital for an unaired TV reality series. There are some genuine scares here that are worth a look for thrill seekers. Doesn't necessarily break any new ground, but milks it for all it's worth.
A competent exercise in the genre.
