The Adjustment Bureau (2011)

'Loosely' based on a Philip K. Dick short story; how loosely I don’t know, I have yet to read it. However, like many of his works it explores the notion that reality is or isn't how we perceive it, and asks whether self-control is governed by the individual or under an outside influence. Furthermore, if we knew the consequences of our actions beforehand, would we still take them?
It’s a wonderfully engaging film that never steps wholly into hard sci-fi territory, so your date might enjoy it too. It’s one of the few Matt Damon films I could watch more than once; most of them I don't even make it to the end.
