French director Jean-Pierre Jeunet delivers the quirky and bizarre once again, this time with a charming crime caper revenge film that is good, harmless fun with a message on the side.
Take the enamor of Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain and the oddball antics of Delicatessen, then twist in some Toy Story and Mission: Impossible and you have Micmacs.
Jeunet has an eye for pleasing and soft-toned color schemes that is just so damned relaxing to the eyes I could watch it forever. The set designs are busy but not distracting, the performances are funny but not silly and the general tone and mood is all together a refreshing change.
My only qualm with the film is that it never gets too dramatically involved with the characters or their emotions. Due to some of the plot elements and character arcs, I think it could have heavily worked in it's favor with a little more dramatic involvement. Never the less, it's a Jeunet and that's good enough for me.
