AKA: The Shitheads

A pair of irresponsible underachievers are tasked with escorting a miscreant teen to rehab, but he proves to be more than a handful as the stakes increase. It's better than most films of this nature, and I found it to be an enjoyable ride.

One Night Only (2026)

The Purge, but for fucking. In an increasingly repressive society where pre-martial relations are punishable by law, a chastity mandate has been put into place, with an exemption that for one night of the year, singles get to have at it. Now introduce the two sweetest characters with hearts of gold and have them "meet ugly" during a series of fun and charming misadventures across the city. Yes, I hated this rom-com premise entirely on principle, but it quickly won me over. Of course, it's easy to get fucked when everyone has a six-pack.

The Sheep Detectives (2026)

I love a good mystery. A kindly old shepherd is found murdered, and his flock, who he used to read detective novels to every night, take it upon themselves to solve the crime by nudging the unwitting humans in the right direction. It's a lot better than it sounds. Emotionally resonant and heavier than expected for a family film, it's surprisingly moving and likely to bring a tear to your ewe.

Splitsville (2025)

After his hot wife splits up with him, a man wanders into a polyamorous relationship with his best friend's hot wife, which predictably causes complications between all involved. Whenever I watch movies like this, I always wonder to myself: How did all these experiences elude me? Oh well. 

It's an infantile indie comedy that rubbed me in all the wrong ways.

Saturday Night (2024)

It's 90 minutes before the very first episode of Saturday Night Live is set to premiere on October 11, 1975. Lorne Michaels frantically struggles to keep the cast's larger-than-life personalities in check, as he deals with snarky writers, cranky technicians and know-it-all executives coming down on him from all sides. It's a clash of egos between divas and assholes, and it's exhausting to say the least. I give Jason Reitman props for handling this source material which has become the stuff of legend at this point, although at times it feels more like an excuse to showcase a bunch of celebrity impersonations (as good as they may be). It seems like they took a lot of the stories and lore from the first year of SNL and crammed as many as they could into a two-hour time frame. It ends right where the first episode begins, so I guess seek that out afterwards to see how it all turned out.
