Writer/director Ari Aster comes swinging out the gates with his debut feature designed to be watched with all the lights out and the bolt locked tight. I don't want to reveal too much because it's a ride meant to be taken alone.
This is a dark, evil little film. It'll sneak in the back of your skull and refuse to let go.

I assume Beau is Afraid will be forthcoming, but I'll fire off, here, just in case. Ooooh boyyyyy. I feel like I'm pretty good at interpreting things, but that was impenetrable and unsatisfying, for me. I want to say at least there was Parker to enjoy, but I definitely didn't sign up for seeing Joaquin. You know what I'm sayin'~ =P
Funnily enough (?), it was my favorite movie of 2023. Saw it a total of five times, which is about 15 hours spent in that state of mind (a cakewalk for me). It is pretty impenetrable on first blush (pun intended?), but there's a lot of subtext that rewards subsequent viewings. Those are the kind of mindfucks I enjoy most.
Anyway, I'll probably get around to nutting it towards the end of the year, but I'm preemptively giving it 5 you-know-whats in the attic out of 5. (Let me know if you want me to send it to you, Doc.)
