Harrison Bergeron (1995)

An adaptation of Kurt Vonnegut Jr's short story of the same name. It uses his basic idea to springboard into slightly different waters, but the resulting ripples lap similar shores. There are many changes and additions to make up the running time, but it's still a well-oiled criticism.
The egalitarian society in which the people live is accepted by the public as easily as our own broken society is by the majority of us. The TV brainwashes in the same way. The apathy is of a similar level. The world is soap opera friendly with comedy woven into the narrative subtly. But behind the scenes the power of the source material is undiluted.
