The Eye 2 (2004)

A desperate cry for help leaves a young woman with the ability to see ghosts. They’re terrifying, shadowy things that occupy empty spaces and invade the personal space of others when they feel like it.
The story is unconnected to The Eye (2002) but came from the same creative team. The addition of a secondary story running alongside the horror adds a new dimension to the scares. The two halves take a long time to find any kind of synergy, but when they do it gifts the narrative with more emotional depth than the first film had.
Some say it's not as chilling as before, but I disagree; there are moments that scared all seven shades of shit out of me.

The Eye (2002)

Asian horror that gave me fierce wiggins. I watched it alone at 1 a.m, which is when all horror should be watched. It’s the story of a blind woman who receives a cornea transplant. Afterwards she begins to see horrific things that most sighted people can’t.
It’s not the most original concept, but the tension and the atmosphere the Pang brothers create makes the film more than memorable. If the final act had kept the pace it would score higher. Fans of Asian horror won't be disappointed. Pray you don't need to use an elevator after watching.

Bangkok Dangerous (1999)

Kong doesn't flinch as he kills because he can’t hear the cries of his victims or the thunder of the gun; he's deaf and mute.
An early film from the Pang Brothers in which they try hard to find an artistic voice and succeed most of the time. It’s exciting to watch it develop; like early John Woo. It’s dark, visually and thematically, lit partly by the surfacing emotions of the hard-boiled protagonist, but mostly it stays in the shadows.

Re-cycle (2006)

Labeling Re-cycle a horror movie is a bit of a stretch, but it's all the better for its lack of big scares. This is a parade of the fantastic, a tale of a writer's mind and all the ideas that lurk within. The plot sometimes feels like an excuse to showcase spectacular visuals, and I'm perfectly okay with this.

There's no denying that Re-cycle's script is a little lacking, but it's such a visual treat it's hard to care. The Pang Brothers have always had a great visual style, but this is their masterpiece, a buffet's worth of visual feasts. I would have loved this even if it had no plot at all. It was just so imaginative and was a joy to watch. As long as you don't come in expecting an involving story, you'll have a terrific time with this one.

Ab-normal Beauty (2004)

Aka: Sei mong se jun

Art student gets bored being pretentious and snobbish while photographing birds and buildings, so finds a morbid subject matter to get her jollies. For a brief moment it gets interesting, but plummets into stylised torture-porn bullshit that made me yearn for the birds and buildings again, at least they had hidden depths.
