Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever (2009)

Ti West takes the helm of writer/director for the second installment of gross-out humor in CF2. Less than 10 minutes in it's pretty obvious something has gone awry. Reported BTS disputes with producers leaves West's vision on the cutting room floor and what's left is quite frankly embarrassing. After a decent opening linking the story to the original, it quickly goes downhill. The film suffers hard from lingering too long on the pathetic high school characters before the blood really hits the fan. While there's plenty of repulsive moments throughout the latter half, there isn't one scene I would classify as memorable. A series of amateurish animated sequences explaining the pathway of infection is the cherry on top of the shit sundae. It's no wonder West wished his name removed from the film.

All About Evil (2010)

The opening credits are arguably the best part of this blackly humorous homage to the heyday of horror made by Peaches Christ, but everything that follows is great fun and well-paced right to the end.
Natasha Lyonne, as a shy librarian with a new-found passion for making a killing (literally) as a horror director, steals every scene she’s in. She and her collective of blood-thirsty antagonists go all out to make it as dramatically entertaining as possible.
The occasional genre in-joke will keep fans happy; the highlight of which for me was Cassandra Peterson (Elvira) as a concerned mom.

LOOPER [2012]

Writer/director Rian Johnson works with a bigger palate on his third feature film, the sci-fi thriller Looper.  Casting Joseph Gordon-Levitt as a young Bruce Willis is a little distracting at times, due to bizarre looking contact lenses & make-up but as the film progresses you forget due to the fascinating story unfolding before you.  Nerds will piss & moan about the time-travelling plotholes but that's missing the point of the film.  It's not about time-travelling...it's about choices & consequences.  It may not be a perfect film but certainly a damned fine entertaining one.
