An introductory look at "America's band" and the surf music revolution of the 1960s, from humble beginnings to household names. As fans of both The Beach Boys and The Beatles, it was interesting to learn how their reach influenced and challenged each other to develop their sound, especially into Pet Sounds and the experimental, never-released Smile. It's a good doc, but they really skimmed over the more unsavory details and omitted pretty much everything after 1980. I found myself doing a deep dive on Wikipedia afterwards in order to quench my need for more knowledge. That shit is so sad though, I can see why they wanted to focus on the "greatest hits" period instead.
