FROZEN [2013]

Disney loosely adapts Hans Christian Anderson's The Snow Queen for it's 53rd animated film, Frozen.
It goes without saying that it's visually astounding, the voice acting is energetically entertaining and several of the songs are very likeable.
However it lacks in a well-fleshed out story, that makes it very apparent that Disney tried to bury many of the darker undertones and conflicts of the characters underneath a heavy helping of animated glee.  The lack of a memorable villain hurts the impact of the tale as well and in that makes for a boring finale that leaves much to be desired when all is said and done.
Criticism aside, it's a perfectly fine film for the kids and I would gladly watch it again in the company of my niece and nephew.

Little Johnnie was not pleased when his blind old Auntie brought him this instead:

3 years must be some kind of record.

I loved this one. I've already seen it twice. :erm: It feels very broadway, which I imagine is on purpose, considering the cast.

Just saw it yesterday. Quite enjoyable. Would see again. Needed more Sven. Yeah the lack of real villains was weird. That ice snowman made me want to fight the ice titan in KH again. The big one, not Olaf.

Mild spoilers ahead! Elsa was originally a lot more villainous. There's some music that reflects this on the deluxe soundtrack. They scrapped this when they opted to make the sister relationship the big focus.

Disney's been trying to make this movie for ages and I think the villain thing was always what tripped them up.

I thought Elsa was going to turn into the villain and thought this was going to be really interesting.

Read an article on io9 about how it would have made a better impact f there was a reprisal of "Do You Want To Build A Snowman?" at the end. I fully agree.
