Ghoulies IV (1994)

What was next for Ghoulies but to introduce an occult-loving dominatrix? You'll get no pushback from me. Sadly, the nail in the coffin for this franchise was replacing the puppets with little people. Did they think they were making Leprechaun? Also, we're now down from three to two. With archival footage from the first movie to pad the runtime, and nothing to push the boundaries of its R-rating, this is ghoulishly an even lower rated pile of shit than the original.

  1. I seem to have lost it, along the way, but I did own this, simply because Matt from X-Entertainment/Dinosaur Dracula is one of the blurbs on the case. "One of the more better-acted films of the genre," iirc. Yep XD

  2. Who the hell watches these for the acting?! :P

  3. What if I told you he's also been quoted by such luminaries as HBO, for Cool As Ice. Because who else is going to praise Mr. Van Winkle's self-aggrandizing cinematic masterpiece?

  4. I've watched the first three, but I don't think I even knew there was a fourth one. I remember where my life was at in 1994, which probably explains it. 🔥

  5. I just noticed you were name-checked in the first movie's post. The circle is complete. 😂

  6. @Neg: I'd say he'd probably been paid off, but looking at the budget of those films, I'm not sure by what...

@Doc: I made light of it in my Ghoulies II nut, but yeah, it feels nice to close another chapter. That's another one of those films that always burns me, because the cover art is so ME.

  7. Back when he used to write about things other than novelty Oreo flavors, Matt was pretty deft at being simultaneously ironic and sincere. Pointing out things that he genuinely appreciated, but you could tell when he was overselling, to let you know that he wasn’t completely insane. That is, if you’re a reader, and not a company fishing for any shred of positivity.

The Cool As Ice review has been M.I.A. for a long time, but I have a cap of the HBO listing.

    “Ice is #1!”

There’s no way they truly read it. They pulled the hazard-level tell and ran with it XD
