Solaris (2002)

There are two main types of Sci-fi cinema: Space Opera and Intellectual; quite often that means American and British, respectively. Solaris finds a niche and somehow avoids both kinds. It’s the human story with emotions, foibles and failings laid bare, featuring Kubrickesque visuals and editing that even Kurosawa would happy-clap.

4 cheers for a remake that doesn't suck out of 5
